From July 29th to August 20th we enjoyed a family holiday in Queensland, Australia. Most of the time was spent in the vicinity of Cairns, which boasts itself as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and the Rain Forest. That it is, though we spent very little time in Cairns since we were just passing through the gate.
Because of airline connections we had one day in Auckland, New Zealand.
Port Douglas was our base of operations for the first four days and we ended up returning for more.
We spent three days on the Reef Encounter out at the Great Barrier Reef snorkeling and looking at fish and coral.
For a change of pace we went to Daintree in the rain forest.
Cape Hillsborough is the place to see Wallabies.
Hervey Bay is a great place to see whales.
Brisbane was an unexpected pleasure.
