Installation Help

First you will be downloading a free demo of Before You Know It, a computerized flashcard application.

Then you will be downloading flashcard files from this site.

Once you have the files installed you can quickly select them from a menu within the application.

First you need to download and install Before You Know It Lite from the BYKI Lite Web site. Look on the left side of the page for the free software download and select the Spanish version.

Follow the instructions for installation. BYKI comes with a few flashcard files. You only have to download and install this once.

Now put BYKI away and come back to this Web site to download these flashcard files. Click once on the name of the file and select Save. Make a folder and Save the flashcard files in that folder on your hard drive. Your choice where to put the folder but make sure you can find it again later.

Repeat with saving the rest of the files you want to your folder.

Or save a lot of time and download the Zipped file that includes all of the individual flashcard files. Once downloaded, you can double click on the Zip file and use the Extract All feature on the left side of the folder window.

Unless you have a slow Internet connection I recommend that you download the Zip file and overwrite any previously downloaded files. This makes you that you have all the latest files and the accent marks in the titles are not stripped off by the Unix Web host.

Now put your Web browser away and start up BYKI.

Click on the View List tab.

Click on the Change List button.

Click on the From File button.

Navigate to the folder on your hard drive where you saved the flashcard files and select the file you want to load. This will install the file into BYKI and it will now be available on Select a List.

Note: it's just as easy to select all the files and install them all at once. Just overwrite the older files. Give BYKI a minute or two to digest all the files.

Tip

Here's a tip on typing in accents in BYKI. When you have the cursor to the right of a letter, press the up arrow key and it cycles through versions of the letter with and without accents. Usually pressing the up arrow once gets the most common accent.

You can move the cursor to the middle of a word and add an accent to the letter just to the left of the cursor using this method.

For the upside down ? you have to use the keyboard that pops up on the screen and hold the Shift key while selecting the character you want with the mouse.
