Clouds over the Cloud Forest. It rained most of the day we were in Monteverde. The heavy canopy of the rain forest saved us from getting too we until we came across this open area where Nancy found shelter from the rain under a huge leaf.
Nancy admires a tree, which is really a whole collection of plants. Every time a tree or branch falls down it is immediately covered with other plants that grow right out of the decaying wood.
We noticed this interesting caterpillar crawling across the handrail on a footbridge.
This is the largest waterfall in the Monteverde preserve. I know it's hard to tell how big, but the leaves on the plants are larger than what we are used to, making the falls look smaller than they are.
There were these strange leaves that looked like two that were glued together.
Ticos are big on special presentation of their toilet paper.
We saw a horse on the hill opposite our hotel window. The horse appeared and disappeared with the fog. Everything was so green anywhere near Monteverde. The farmer's fields looked like they belonged to a king.
Roy with a banana tree we found in the forest behind the hotel.
After a long day of trekking around in the rain we deserved a good dinner in Monteverde. Nancy had a spicy Guanacaste steak from the nearby ranches and Roy had fish smothered in capers.
