Playas Ocotal

Our beach stay was at the Ocotal Resort that occupies most of a 1/3 mile long beach and the bluffs above.

In keeping with the Tico habit of fancy toilet paper presentation the Ocotal Resort had a flower on it.

The tropical fish hang out around these lava rocks at the end of the beach. At low tide they are exposed like this. When the tide is in you have to go snorkeling to see them.

Nancy tried fishing for those colorful fish we had just been looking at under water but they decided to stay there and left her lure alone.

Fighting Crab Half Size

These crabs were all over the hillsides of Playas Ocotal. One even scratched at our door to get in.

The Ocotal Hotel snack bar called Father Rooster was right down on the beach. It occupies an 80 year old wooden house that was the original ranch house. Somehow I don't think this was the original color scheme.

Only twice in the 7 days we were at Ocotal we went into Playas Coco, the local town, to eat. It isn't the nicest place we've visited. Here Nancy is enjoying the local Chinese restaurant.
