We flew ourselves from San Diego, CA to Olympia, WA in our Maule MT7-260 and back again after our two week vacation there. It was a wonderful trip both ways. Roy has an instrument rating, though not a lot of experience, and Nancy was working on her private pilot license. We have since given up flying for economic reasons. It was great while it lasted.
The Siskiyou Mountains that border northern California and Oregon are beautiful to fly over. They had snow down below 5,000 feet even though it was June.
Nancy did a lot of the flying. Here she's blowing by Mount Shasta, one of the larger volcanoes in California.
We worried about what to do if we had an engine problem over the mountains. I looked down and there was a nice airstrip below us on a mountain lake. Looks like others like to fly over these beautiful mountains too.
We passed a whole string of volcano mountains between Mount Shasta in northern California and Mount Rainer in Washington. I don't even remember which ones these are.
We landed about 7 PM in Olympia. We tied down over night and the next day the FBO towed the Maule over to their hanger where they kept it out of the elements in a hanger.
