I really had only one full day for sight seeing, which is documented on the other pages here. The work week was very full of meetings and testing of the cellular telephone system, which is why I was in Bangkok.
Here's what I do, ride around in a van with a bunch of cellular phones hooked up to a laptop computer. The computer records lots of information about how good the signal is. Sometimes it's very puzzling why the phones act the way they do. The data we gather with the computer is analyzed and usually points out what went wrong. Then we fix it.
It wouldn't be working without a working lunch. Ten bucks US would feed this crowd with lots left over.
About mid afternoon we visited the top of a building to inspect antennas. After we came down I ran into the building for a quick rest stop. When I came out it was a downpour so bad they backed the test van over to the door so I could jump in. Still got soaked.
This is a view out the 14th floor where the Thai engineers work. Beautiful new building with an open floor plan and nice furniture. The view is a bonus. First notice the unfinished building in the foreground. It's been that way for three years. If you walk up to the building at ground level you wouldn't notice because there is a bank with a fancy facade. There are lots of buildings like this in Bangkok where the first half dozen floors are occupied and the next dozen or two are unfinished. Now notice the canal with a canal boat right in the center of the picture.
This is a telephoto shot of the canal boat. It's a water taxi that is about to stop at the dock next to the bridge. The boat must hold at least a hundred people and it's very fast. I would have rather taken the boat rather than a car taxi but the canal didn't go in the direction of the hotel.
This is the view out of the office window in the opposite direction. Here was this big temple and shrine that isn't even on the tourist maps. Bangkok is just full of them. See the Grand Palace page for more gold than you can shake a stick at.
